Does 8 decks change strategy? (No — S17 does)

Here's the part most chart sites get backwards: going from six decks to eight changes zero cells of basic strategy — we diffed the charts in the engine to check. Past four decks the composition is so diluted that card-removal effects stop mattering; the extra decks only cost you house edge (about +0.04%), not plays. Why do casinos deal eight decks at all?

Fewer shuffles per hour and more resistance to card counting — the true count moves sluggishly through a 416-card shoe. The +0.04% edge bump over six decks is almost incidental; the operational reasons are why the big shoes exist.

Is this the Atlantic City chart?

Yes — 8 decks, S17, DAS, late surrender is the classic AC rule package (many AC tables now hit soft 17, so check the felt; the H17 differences above are exactly what flips). It's also common in Asian and European rooms, though European games often add the no-hole-card rule, which you can set in the interactive chart.

Surrender is on this chart — should I really use it?
